Building Good Habits for Middle School Success

Updated: Mar 15

At tuition-free charter middle school Aurum Preparatory Academy (Aurum Prep) we focus on preparing students for college and beyond. Through rigorous instruction and positive character education, Aurum Prep is educating students in grades 6 through 8 not only to succeed, but to become the next generation of moral leaders. To achieve these goals, we encourage our middle schoolers to develop good habits both at school and at home.

Good Habits Lead to Academic Success

Studies show that developing good habits positively impacts academic success.

A group of 5 Aurum Preparatory Academy students take a break from their academic classes to exercise and play outside.

Getting a good night’s sleep, limiting screen time, and exercising are all important, healthy habits for middle schoolers. At Aurum Prep we provide nutritious meals – breakfast, lunch, and a snack – free of charge to every student. We promote the effective use of screens to enhance our classroom activities, but do not rely on them. We offer PE and competitive sports including co-ed soccer and girls and boys basketball, flag football & volleyball.

Through our advisory program, which matches each Aurum Prep teacher with a group of up to 15 students they mentor and champion, our middle schoolers are developing the important habits of time management, organization, and goal setting.

Our emphasis on character education is at the core of our mission to prepare the next generation of leaders. This student-centered model empowers learners to stay engaged, participate, and speak up for themselves. They are building the habits of kindness, empathy, and empowerment.

Good Habits are Fun!

At Aurum Prep we know how to have fun. Whether it’s participating in an after school club or attending one of our social events, our students are developing the essential habits of building bonds and making friends.

A large group of Aurum Preparatory Academy students are gathered at tables as they listen to a teacher encouraging them to participate in a class activity.

Field trips throughout the Bay Area and the Week without Walls, an experiential learning opportunity, enhance the fun of our academic program.

Our students are learning the habit of asking for help when they need it. Teachers offer after school tutorials three days per week, but students can also work with their advisors to develop the routines and strategies that aid them in excelling.

At Aurum Prep we partner with families to help our students develop good habits for middle school success. A limited number of spots are still available in our safe, structured and tuition-free school community. Contact us today to enroll.
